A 16-year-old student who was shot in the head while waiting for a school bus earlier this week in Gwinnett County, Georgia, has died.
According to tragic reports, officers were dispatched to the Saddle Shoals neighborhood at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday after reports of “someone who heard a gunshot and then saw kid lying in the street.” There they found sophomore Timothy Barnes Jr.
CNN say that a charge of malice murder is amongst those filed against 17-year-old suspect Serar Abdi, who was located in the same neighborhood as the victim.
Lawrenceville Police Department Lt. J. O. Parker. told how Abdi had been charged previously been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony.
Both the suspected shooter and his victim attended Central Gwinnett High School, about 30 miles away from Atlanta.
“The two had some sort of disagreement in the past,” Lt. Parker said. “They know each other from school and had some sort of conflict recently.”
Abdi made his first appearance before a Gwinnett County Magistrate Court judge on Thursday morning in connection with the shooting. At present he remains in Gwinnett County Adult Detention Center without bond.
Speaking to WXIA, Barnes’ grieving mother Latoya Nicholson: “He’s just a good child overall. I don’t know what happened or why they did it. My son was into sports, school.”
