Though the coronavirus pandemic has undoubtedly plunged the world into a period of uncertainty and darkness, there are still rays of light to be found.
It in times like these that we must do our best to find stories of hope, and that’s exactly what we’ve been able to dig up here. It involves a 101-year-old man who survived both the Spanish flu and World War II, and has now conquered coronavirus as well.
As per reports, the elderly Italian citizen in question – identified only as Mr. P, was released from hospital having been treated early last week. The centurion, born amid the Spanish flu pandemic, is among the oldest people to have beaten COVID-19.
As per CNN, the deputy mayor of Rimini, Italy, Gloria Lisi, revealed how Mr. P was admitted to hospital earlier this month after testing positive for coronavirus.
He left said hospital on Thursday, with Lisi hailing his “truly extraordinary” recovery. Mr. P, who was born in 1919, has been defying the odds his entire life, and his fight with coronavirus produced a somewhat predictable outcome.
Lisi said: “Mr. P made it. The family brought him home yesterday evening. To teach us that even at 101 years the future is not written.”
The deputy mayor also told Italian outlet ANSA: “He saw everything, Mr. P. War, hunger, pain, progress, crisis, and resurrections.”
Indeed, such incredible news is what we all need to hear more of during these troubling times. Coronavirus may have pushed us to our knees, but we will rise again so long as we work together and maintain hope.
