Police officers showed up to a South Carolina nursing home with lights flashing and sirens going to honor a veteran celebrating his 100th birthday.
Charles Siniard was masked and sitting outside his nursing home in Lexington Gardens when a parade passed by honking their horns and holding up signs to wish the local hero a Happy Birthday.
“He’s a good man, served his country, served his lord, faithful, still doing it, everybody looks up to him, he’s just a good man,” his relatives told WITX.com news.
Charles, who has been living at the nursing home for 3 years, is described as a “breath of fresh air” and a Timex that just “keeps on ticking,” by staff at the home.
The centenarian was married for 70 years and has a son. After serving his country he went on to work in a number of industries eventually retiring as a trucking supervisor.
Officers from Lexington Police Department presented Charles with a letter of commendation and thanked him for his service.
A video of the presentation was shared on Facebook alongside the caption: “Major Matt Davis, along with officers of the Lexington Police Department, were honored to celebrate the 100th birthday of Charles Siniard with family, friends, and staff at Carolina Gardens Senior Living at Lexington.”
Charles had no idea of the parade that staff at the home and family had organized for him.
After, a very happy Charles whose motto is to “always have a positive attitude, even at 100” said his day had been: “a big surprise and I appreciate everyone.”
