Parker Williams may only be nine years old, but he knows that being nice will get you a lot further in life than being mean.
“I think more people should be nice.”
It’s something his parents have taught him and his two older brothers—always be nice.
Recently, Parker had the opportunity to show kindness to someone in his life. He wanted to recognize his third grade teacher for all her hard work.
“Well, I think she’s a really kind teacher, and she has her own way of teaching and she spends time on everybody,” he told WFLA.
After mulling over his idea every night for a week, the third grade student from Tampa, Florida wanted to pay it forward by giving his teacher, Mrs. Chambers a raise.
He took $15 of his birthday money, wrote a note and delivered it to her in class.
“Dear Mrs. Chambers, I don’t think that teachers get paid enough for what they do, so, will you accept this gift?”
No one knew of Parker’s generous gift to his teacher.
“The first reaction was my eyes welling up with tears that my son had that reaction all on his own, that he would do that. I cried,” his mother, Jennifer, said, “We never knew he did this until we found the note in his backpack.”
While Parker’s teacher appreciated the gift, she returned his birthday money with a note.
“I can’t accept this, but appreciate the gesture Parker, students like you are the reason I teach.”
Even though Mrs. Chambers couldn’t accept the “raise,” Parker didn’t mind.
“It made me feel really nice and good,” he said.
What a sweet, sweet boy! This is exactly the right attitude we should all possess.
