Tonight is the night when all the little ghosts and goblins run through the streets trick-or-treating, seeing how much candy they can acquire in just a few short hours.
Kids in Webster, Texas will also be able to run through the halls of Heartis Senior Living Clear Lake and collect what could amount to several pounds of candy from the residents who live there.
In the beginning of October, Becky Hudson, the lifestyle director at the assisted living facility, learned that some of the residents missed passing candy out to children on Halloween.
“One of my residents, she happened to mention that she hadn’t handed out candy in over 30 years.”
Since Hudson knew residents’ spirits changed for the better when children were around she shared a photo of a free senior citizens holding signs asking for candy donations.
No one could have guessed how much candy they were about to receive.
“The next thing you know we’ve got a wall full of Amazon boxes!” resident Jack Newlin, 87, told KHOU.
Bags and bags of candy arrived from all over the country.
“It’s so touching because every bag of candy represents the selflessness of somebody that just wanted to help us out,” Hudson said.
Now that it’s finally Halloween, the residents are ready to celebrate, they just need some trick-or-treaters.
The assisted living facility believes they have enough candy for all 141 of their residents to hand out.
Residents at Heartis Senior Living Clear Lake will be handing out candy to trick-or-treaters tonight from 6pm to 8pm. In addition to lots and lots of candy, there will also be a bounce house, food, a hayride, and face painting.
How sweet! So many people wanted to help that now all the residents will be able to pass out to all the children who come to trick-or-treat.
Share this so the word will get out and the residents at Heartis Senior Living Clear Lake will be visited by hundreds of little ghosts and goblins.
