A retired police officer from Denver, Colorado is using her free time to help those in need.
In the beginning of April, Snow White, 67, boarded a plane for Europe to help the refugees fleeing Ukraine.
“What I’m doing is representing Denver, Colorado and I’m here for all of Denver to say we are fighting this.”
White, who worked for the Denver Police Department for 28 years, had been looking for ways to help those escaping the war in Ukraine when she came across an article about World Central Kitchen.
“That is something I can do,” she thought. “If everybody could do it, they would. But they can’t, they have work or have family.”
On April 2, she boarded a flight to Poland and on April 3 she arrived, ready to help those in need.
She was assigned to a warehouse in Przemysl, Poland. At the warehouse, White and volunteers from all over assemble sandwiches and package food for refugees.
White said it was “humbling to do this work but I am thankful to be able to make a difference. I feel horrible for them(refugees from Ukraine).”
While the retired police officer initially planned to stay for two weeks, after seeing the impact of the volunteers’ efforts, she decided to stay until at least June.
“You’re doing something other than sitting at home wishing you could do something.”
