Last year at this time, Texans were recovering from the brutal and historic winter storm which left 3 million without power. In the aftermath, many community members are going above and beyond to help.
From big-hearted people such as Raymond Garcia who is offering his plumbing services for free and businessman Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale who turned his furniture stores into life-saving shelters for those without power, it’s clear many Texans were coming together in the crisis.
But it’s wasn’t only Texans who pulled out all the stops to get people back on their feet. One man traveled with his family, all the way from New Jersey to offer his plumbing services.
In February 2021, Andrew Mitchell made the 25-hour drive from Morristown with his wife Kisha Pinnock and their 2-year-old son Blake in a truck full of tools to help the many Texans dealing with burst water pipes.
Not only did the deadly winter storm leave millions without power but many without running water.
Local plumbers have been overwhelmed with calls and many customers face weeks of waiting before they can get their pipes fixed and running water back into their homes.
Isaiah Pinnock, who is Kisha’s brother and Mitchell’s apprentice, also accompanied them on the journey which was over 1,700 miles long.
Kisha and Isaiah’s sister, who lives in Houston, connected them with several people who had been looking to hire plumbers.
“By the time we got here there was already about four or five jobs lined up from my sister, and we just hit those first and then everything after that has really just been referrals from like the initial customers, like their friends and family,” Kisha said, as per CNN.
“Since we’ve been here, it has really been nonstop.”
She said her husband and brother had done about 13 jobs since they arrived on Sunday and are getting booked up fast.
The group now plan to stay for two weeks so they can help as many people as possible.
Thank goodness for this family who have put their lives on hold to help others. They deserve all the praise and thanks.
