If you were to dress up as your favorite person, who would it be? A character from a movie? One of your parents? An inspirational leader?
When five-year-old Easton Blocker was tasked with dressing as his favorite person at his elementary school in Jacksonville, Arkansas, he knew exactly who he wanted to be, Officer Jeffrey Cross.
Cross is the security officer at Easton’s school.
“From day one, he has always had a fascination with Officer Cross,” Lauryn, Easton’s mom, told THV11.
“The love that that child has for him is overwhelming,” she said. “Every morning he is out there greeting the kids. High fives and hugs. That’s what you can expect from Officer Cross.”
So it didn’t come as too much of a surprise when the five-year-old wanted to dress up as Cross for “Dress As Your Favorite Person Day.”
Lauryn made her son a shirt to match Cross and the security officer loved it.
“It makes me appreciate my job more,” he said.
This school year marks the first year the school district placed an armed officer in every school in the district.
“They had questions about why I was armed and I was just telling them, ‘I’m armed to protect them from someone bad who would come and hurt them,'” Cross said.
And for that everyone, especially Easton, is thankful.
“Just for the fact that he shows his appreciation and he hugs me every day when he sees me every morning. It really makes my day,” Cross said.
