Tom Hanks was presented with the opportunity to fly to space on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket, but he declined.
The award-winning actor recently told Jimmy Kimmel that Bezos offered him a spot on Blue Origin’s latest trip, but it would come at a cost. And a hefty one at that.
“You know it costs like 28 million bucks, or something like that, and I’m doing good Jimmy, I’m doing good — but I ain’t paying 28 million bucks,” Hanks told Kimmel during an interview which aired Tuesday on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”.
While Hanks appeared on the show to promote his new move Finch, he spoke with Kimmel about passing on the opportunity to go to space.
“You know what, we could simulate the experience of going to space right now.”
Hanks leaned back in his chair as if he was taking off and then mimicked what it would feel like to experience zero gravity.
“I don’t need to spend 28 million bucks to do that,” he said.
On October 13, William Shatner traveled to space on Blue Origin’s New Shepherd 4 rocket. The 90-year-old best known for playing Captain Kirk became the oldest person to travel to space.
When he and the three other crew members returned to earth, Shatner appeared extremely emotional.
“In a way it’s indescribable. In a way it’s indescribable,” he said. “Everybody in the world needs to do this, everybody in the world needs to see the… It was unbelievable. Unbelievable.”
