This September will mark 12 years since Patrick Swayze died after a battle with pancreatic cancer, and ever since his death, not a day goes by where his widow, Lisa Swayze, doesn’t think about the love of her life.
The two married on June 12, 1975 and remained together until his death in 2009, and although he is gone Lisa continues to honor him.
In celebration of what would have been their 46th wedding anniversary, Lisa shared a photo on Instagram and called upon her followers to ask their senators to support the fight against pancreatic cancer, the same cancer Alex Trebek battled for more than a year before he died.
“Patrick’s life was cut short, but he really knew how to live. Like, he loved ordering multiple desserts!” she wrote.
“Honoring him on what would’ve been our 46th anniversary.”
Despite losing the love of her life when he was only 57 years old, Lisa said she now has a different kind of relationship with Patrick.
“When you lose someone, you never stop loving them and it’s– I feel like I have a different relationship with him now,” she told Entertainment Tonight in August 2019.
“It’s just, he’s not physically present, you know what I mean?”
In the years since his death, Lisa has continued the fight in helping others who have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
She has also been somewhat of a guiding light for their families.
“I think he wants me to do well and be happy. And at the same time, I think he likes it that I’m tough enough to keep fighting. So he’d probably be going okay, sweetheart, you go girl, you get it done,” she told Yahoo Life in November 2020.
It’s heartbreaking that Patrick Swayze’s life was cut short, but it’s uplifting to know that his widow continues to fight for those who are currently battling the same disease that took her late husband’s life 12 years ago.
