Joy Behar faces criticism after expressing concern for her vacation to Italy because of war in Ukraine

Immediately following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, many spoke out condemning the horrible act of war.

But there was at least one person who drew some controversy for their concern of Western Europe.

“Well, I’m scared of what’s going to happen in Western Europe, too,” Joy Behar said during an episode of The View which aired February 24.

During the episode, the panel explained how Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered tanks into Ukraine. The hosts then began to discuss the crisis. Whoopi Goldberg talked about the Russians’ lack of support for the war, while Sunny Hostin mentioned a refugee crisis that would almost certainly take place in Europe.

Hostin talked about the vast amount of people who would be displaced and seek shelter across Europe.

“We’re talking about 5 million people that are gonna be displaced. I mean, it’s heartbreaking to hear what is going to happen,” she said.

Then Behar spoke.

“Well, I’m scared of what’s going to happen in Western Europe, too,” she said. “You know, you plan a trip, you want to go there. [I wanted] to go to Italy for four years. I haven’t been able to make it because of the pandemic — and now this. It’s like, what’s going on there, too?”

While her cohosts didn’t respond to her comments, those who watched the show did.

Behar has yet to comment on her controversial comments, yet she has continued to discuss the war in Ukraine.

What are your thoughts about Behar’s remarks about her Italian vacation? Was it tone deaf?
