It’s been six years since David Bowie died, but not a day goes by where his widow Iman thinks of her beloved husband.
“Yeah, I think of him all the time.”
The 67-year-old supermodel recently sat down with Today’s Hoda Kotb and discussed for only the second time since his death, her life since Bowie’s death in January 2016.
During the interview, which aired on SiriusXM, Iman shared how it annoys her when people refer to Bowie as her “late” husband.
“Don’t call my husband ‘late,’” she said. “He’s not my late husband. He’s my husband. And he’ll always be.”
The couple first met on a blind date after Iman moved to Los Angeles in 1990. Two years later they were married.
Iman “never intended” to move to Los Angeles, but said she now believes it was her “destiny.”
“My destiny was calling me to get there so I could meet David.”
“David said it was love at first sight,” she shared. “It took me a few months, but I got there.”
The couple then moved to New York City where they lived a more private life with their daughter Alexandria “Lexi” Jones, now 22 years old.
“I think if you’re lucky, you’ll experience something like that, you know what I mean? It’s luck and I was lucky,” she said reflecting on her 26-year relationship with Bowie.
In November 2021, Iman opened up for the first time following Bowie’s 18-month long battle with cancer and ultimate death in January 2016.
“There are days that are harder than others,” she told People.
“But the memories are not all sad of why the person isn’t here. The memories are now of how great it was,” she said. “Sometimes I have to remind myself that I had 26 years. So I have that to sustain me.”
Something else that sustains her?
The possibility that she’ll meet up with Bowie in the afterlife.
“If there is an afterlife, I’d like to see my husband again.”
As for now, his memory continues to live on.
“I definitely feel his presence, especially when I look out over the glorious sunsets at our home because David loves sunsets. So in that way he is ever present,” Iman said. “Through my memory, my love lives.”
I think it’s so beautiful what Iman said about David Bowie. He may no longer physically be with her, but his spirit still lives on.
