Southern Louisiana, USA, has been hit by severe flooding, with more than 30,000 people being forced to flee their homes.
Meanwhile, hundreds of animals and dogs have also been left stranded, often finding themselves alone on flooded streets. Thankfully, many are being rescued from drowning, thanks to kind hearted good samaritans.
Mike Andersson and Darrel Watson are two such local heroes. They have been spending days rescuing animals in distress in the waters.
They ride around on a river boat between flooded houses and do everything they can to rescue stranded people – as well as animals.
So far, they have saved over 100 lives – both humans as well as animals.
Recently, Mike and Darrel found two pit bulls that had been left behind in a flooding house. They were fighting for their lives in the water.
According to Mike, the two dogs may have been in the water for as long as 16 hours. The rescued dogs are now receiving food, water and temporary housing, according to The Dodo.
Mike and Darrel are not the only local heroes.
Josh Petit recently added a photo to Facebook of a poor dog that literally had water up to his nose.
“Out the corner of my eyes I seen a bush shaking! This is all I saw! Eyes and nose barely above water. She could barely tread water anymore she was so worn out and had the saddest eyes I ever seen so scared for her life! We saved her and she came laid her head on my lap and cried and moaned like a big baby! She was thanking me. I thank God for letting me notice her,“ Josh describes in his Facebook post.
