There’s nothing I hate more than people who neglect and abuse animals. Some people seem to think that pets are something they can treat like property. And what they don’t understand is that a dog or cat is a great responsibility and requires a lot of energy and loving care.
Pax is one of the many dogs that is mistreated by their owners. But he’s also one of the lucky ones. He was saved just in time. Now he’s on the mend, and is beginning to understand what a dog’s life should really be.
Last Sunday, an animal welfare center in New Jersey was called about a neglected pet. Concerned neighbors had reported a straggly dog outside the house without food or water. But what rescuers saw when they arrived on the scene was worse than they could have ever imagined.
“A skeleton of a puppy wagged his emaciated body as they approached. He then collapsed from the exertion and excitement of greeting a visitor, having been alone for days,” the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge wrote in a press release.
Pax was wrapped in a towel and taken straight to the Oradell Animal Hospital. On the way, he showed signs of gratitude and gave his rescuers lots of love and affection. The puppy refused to stop kissing them.
Once at the animal hospital, they unwrapped Pax from his towel and placed him on the floor. Once again, he wagged his little body to show his gratitude and joy. His rail-thin body was weak and he fell several times, only to stand up again and continue to wag his tail.
The staff burst into tears when they saw how much joy Pax could express with his skinny little body. They were determined to save him and make him strong again.
Pax stayed at the hospital for two days and quickly grew stronger. All of the staffers were charmed by his loving personality.
When it was time for Pax to leave, he couldn’t help but give everyone a goodbye kiss. Although Pax has suffered so much in his life, there was so much love in this dog.
Pax is already on the mend! Although it’s been less than a week since he was rescued, he’s already gained a couple of pounds. Now, he’s back at the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, where he’ll stay until he’s healthy and ready to be adopted into a new home.
To finance his veterinary costs, the animal shelter has started a page on GoFundMe, and they’ve already collected over $7,500 for his care.
“This very special puppy has won the hearts of everyone who meets him. He’s got a long way to go..but his spirit is strong, and he’s very loved. Thank you all for caring ❤️,” the animal shelter wrote on Pax’s GoFundMe page.
I’m so glad Pax was saved! It’s unbelievable that he’s so loving and kind-hearted after being so mistreated for most of his life. Pax really proves how wonderful dogs are!
