Whales are the biggest animals in the world, so you’d think they’d be pretty easy to spot. But rare white whales are a different challenge.
So when researchers from Murdoch University launched drones over the coast of Western Australia they weren’t expecting to come across a pale-coloured calf swimming alongside its darker, ‘normal-coloured’ mother.
The pale calves turn darker after around a year and, even though they are rare, this calf proves that they are similar to every other animal – they all love playing with their mothers.
As the drone flies over, the small (in whale terms at least) calf can be seen swimming around and over its mother – seemingly trying to get her attention. Watch the full, stunning footage below:
