It’s reasonable to assume that anyone who’s ever had a pet knows the sort of work and time that has to go into properly taking care of them. Walks, visits to the vets, social interaction … and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Above all else, however, is the absolute necessity of showing your pet love and care.
It’s dogs that are attributed the moniker of ‘man’s best friend’, and it’s a title that’s been well earned over the years. Simply put, they’re always there for us. They’re devoted, trustworthy, kind, and stand by our side when we need them most. You literally can’t get a more loyal friend than a dog …
Sadly, even so, there are many dogs who find themselves living on the streets, in need of a loving home and a family to take care of them. What’s more, life on the streets is rarely a pleasant existence for our four-legged friends. It’s one of turmoil, strife, and a continued fight for every meal.
Which is why I love to hear about people such as Chris and Mariesa. Together, they share a wonderful passion: Rescuing dogs from the streets and giving them a second chance in life. To hear them tell it, they believe the dogs pay them back in kind, as their marriage is made stronger through this sacrosanct bond of compassion.
Indeed, theirs is a true love story!
But even though they have all the room in the world inside their hearts, they simply can’t take in every stray they meet. Instead, they have to rely others being as charitable as they are, and even then re-homing animals together is no easy task.
Take, for example, a band of eight they rescued together – it’s simply not practical to assume any household can home them all.
So it was that when a bitch at a local shelter needed rehoming, Chris and Mariesa were forced to say they couldn’t take her on full-time. Despite this, they did agree to let the dog, named Storie, stay in their house for a while, so she was in a safe and warm place at the very least.
Little did they know that the dog was hiding a big surprise. When they took Storie to the vets, they found she was pregnant with no less than TWELVE pups!
