German shepherds so often get a bad rep. Many people see them as a dangerous and aggressive breed, but it’s always important to remember that what matters most is how a dog is raised by its owner.
The video in this article, which has over 6 million views on Facebook, should remind people to never judge a book by its cover.
Michael Collins lives with his dog Kyza, a German shepherd. According to Michael, Kyza is often misunderstood by strangers, with many people wary of him being aggressive because of his size. In actual fact, Kyza rarely even barks at strangers. It’s Michael’s belief that a dog’s upbringing has far more impact with regards to its behaviour, than its breed does.
Sadly, there are others who don’t see it like that. So, when neighbourhood mailman Steve comes to deliver mail each day, he could be forgiven for being hesitant to approach the property when Kyza is roaming free in the front-yard. This is especially true since mail men and dogs can sometimes be at odds with each other.
What Michael saw through his window one day would lead to him pulling out his camera – for an entirely different reason.
It’s important to remember that Steve doesn’t have any special affinity towards Kyza – he’s just one more dog the mailman passes on his delivery round.
But one day, Steve rode by, left the post in the mailbox and then went to give the German shepherd a cuddle. Seconds later, Kyza had stood up at the fence, so he could be fussed and petted.
And, apparently, it wasn’t just a one-time thing. Every day now when Steve goes past, he stops to see his friend.
“Everyday whether or not we have mail this mail man always stops to see my dog who is only 9 months old,” Michael wrote on his Facebook.
“This guy here always makes an effort to get off his bike to give him a hug and a pat! I’m not sure who to tag on Facebook for him to see this! But thanks man keep up the good job and you’ve definitely got a friend waiting for ya!!”
Thankfully, Michael decided to film one such encounter. This way, the whole world can have a chance to see another side to German shepherds.
As you can see in this tear-jerking clip, Kyza is very happy to see his good friend, the mailman, every day.
A dog is only as good as its owner. It’s clear to see here that Kyza is thriving in Michael’s home.
Personally, I’m just glad the mailman was kind to a misunderstood dog who only wanted someone to fuss him. Please share if you felt touched by this story!
