It was the beginning of March and street dog Powder had given up on life. He lay, ready to die, on the grass next to a highway in Florida. And that would’ve been the end of the story if it weren’t for some alert motorists who noticed an odd white lump lying on the side of the road.
Little Powder had curled up into a ball by the side of the road and couldn’t move anymore.
When police came to rescue the pup, Powder looked up at his rescuers with tired eyes.
The police covered him with a blanket and gave him food and water. Suddenly, the spark of life returned to Powder’s eyes. The dog instantly understood that they wished him well.
Powder could barely hold himself up, so the police had to lift him with the support of the blanket under his belly. Gently, they walked the dog to their patrol car.
Powder didn’t realize it then, but his life would never be the same again. He was safe now.
Powder received immediate veterinary care and was moved to Dezzy’s Second Chance Animal Rescue. He has a long way to go and will need, among other things, to have operations on both eyes and get treatment for his skin infections. When he’s healthy enough, he will move to a forever home.
Good luck, little Powder!
