This image of a dying police horse named Charlotte and her rider is now going viral, touching hearts everywhere. Her rider, Officer D. Herrejon, held her as she took her last breath after a tragic car accident in Houston, Texas, USA. Now thousands around the world are mourning the loss of Charlotte.
Police horse Charlotte got scared, threw off her rider and ran out into the road. She was hit by a car and collapsed onto the street.
Police in Houston posted an update to their Facebook page shortly after the accident:
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Charlotte, an HPD Mounted Patrol horse, who died in the line of duty this morning in a motor vehicle accident. This is an ongoing investigation, but the driver of the vehicle is not believed to be at-fault. Her rider, Officer D. Herrejon, was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but is doing well.”

Officer Herrejon loved his colleague Charlotte and rushed to her after the accident. He then lay beside her and comforted her while she took her last breath.

The heartbreaking picture shows the love between the officer and his horse. He pats her head, hugs her and speaks soothingly to her. I’m really glad Officer Herrejon was there at her side.
“She loved her job and was always ready to go to work putting bad guys in jail or giving nuzzles to children. She served the citizens of Houston for 4 years. She will be missed,” continues the Facebook post.
