A former Lyft driver has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal accident that occurred on April 4 in Tustin, California.
The driver, Andy Van Pham, 30, allegedly fell asleep at the wheel while driving a customer and then drove into a light pole. The impact caused traumatic injuries to the 70-year-old passenger.
The passenger later died from their injuries.
Local news reported that the incident occurred on April 4 around 7 a.m. Pham reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and lost control of his vehicle.
The vehicle hit a light pole, and the crash caused the passenger who was identified as Margie Quibol to sustain traumatic injuries. Quibol later died from her injuries.
“After an extensive investigation by the Tustin Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team, it was determined the driver, 30-year-old Andy Van Pham was driving with negligence resulting in the death of the victim,” the police said in a statement.
Months after the accident an arrest warrant was issued and Pham was arrested and charged with Vehicular Manslaughter with Ordinary Negligence.
The 30-year-old was also permanently banned from Lyft.
It’s frightening that you can get in the car with someone, think you can trust them, only for them to operate the vehicle with negligence.
