A family is in mourning after a 28-year-old mother-of-three was shot dead in front of her children as she got ready to take them to school.
As per the New York Post, the woman, from San Antonio, Texas, was found dead behind the steering wheel of her car at around 7:15 a.m. on Monday.
KSAT say that she had been loading her kids – aged 2, 6 and 10 – into the vehicle to drive them to school when she was suddenly ambushed.
Authorities declared that they are “relatively certain” the shooter was the woman’s 30-year-old estranged husband.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said in a news conference that the man was apprehended at a nearby home and is now being questioned in police custody.
According to KSAT, the husband had been out on bond at the time of the shooting and had also violated a protective order many times.
Chief McManus said: “I can’t express the outrage that something like this could happen after our involvement with this individual so many times. I mean it’s clearly written on the wall what’s going on here. And yet again, here we are.”
McManus said better efforts must be made to protect victims of domestic voilence.
“If we can’t do that, then we’ve failed as a criminal justice system,” he added.
The three children have been put in the care of their grandmother.
My heart bleeds for this young woman, taken cruelly from the world by a cold act of needless violence.
