There are so many dogs in shelters just waiting to be adopted, but sadly it takes some longer than others to find their forever homes, through no fault of their own.
Sadly, some dogs wait years in shelters, spending a big part of their life in kennels only dreaming of a real home.
Like one poor dog, who has been waiting four years for a family — but she’s still hoping that 2021 will be the year her dreams come true.
Meet Mia:
Life has never been easy for Mia. She was brought to Ulster County SPCA, in New York, four years ago after being found on the streets.
“Mia was found as a stray and went unclaimed,” Ulster County SPCA wrote. “Scared, confused, and untrusting, Mia had no idea what to make of her situation.”
While terrified at first, the shelter workers soon got through to Mia and earned her trust. The terrier mix adjusted to her new surroundings, and the staff quickly fell in love with the dog.
Sadly, not everyone could see what a good dog she was: years passed, and no one wanted to adopt Mia.
She has now been waiting for four years, becoming the SPCA’s longest resident.
“Our biggest wish for Mia is a HOME for 2021, and not just a shelter cot,” the shelter wrote in a Facebook video.
Like many longtime shelter dogs, Mia needs time to ease into any new home. The shelter asks that any interested adopters meet her a few times first, and that her new home not have any other pets or children.
But whoever does adopt Mia will have a very happy, adventurous dog to be their companion.
“She loves kisses (hope you don’t mind your face being a little damp), toys, blankies, co-piloting on car rides,” the SPCA wrote. “She’s an independent and strong-willed dog who amazes us with her resilience.”
Four years is far too long for any dog to be in a shelter. We hope Mia finds her forever home soon!
