Martin Murkens worked as a baker for 35 years, but dreamt all the while of becoming an opera singer. With no money to study formally, he simply sang while he baked. After many years of dreaming, he finally found the courage to audition for “Holland’s Got Talent” – and won the competition. In this clip, he is seen stunning town visitors and even bringing some to tears with his splendid voice and interpretation of “You Raise Me Up”. The purity and beauty of his voice is astounding. I could listen to it over and over again without getting tired of it. Above all, his story teaches us to never give up even on our craziest dreams.
