But fortunately, there’s an effective way to get rid of ants that doesn’t require you to choose between your health and your sanity. Borax! According to Livestrong.com, “The Safety Source for Pest Management gives [Borox] a ‘least toxic’ rating, stating that the key element, boron, occurs naturally in the earth’s crust and can often be found in the human bloodstream.” That’s good news when you want to get rid of ants but not put your family at risk. Livestrong.com also writes on its website, “Borax is immediately irritant. Long-term contact can result in toxicity. All you need to make your own all-natural ant killer are a few ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen cupboards.
Supplies:
6 tsp sugar
6-8 tsp Borax
Mug
Boiling water
Honey (optional)
Spray bottle
First, set some water to boil in a kettle. In the meantime, mix sugar and Borax in a mug. When the water comes to a boil, fill the mug and stir. For some extra power, consider adding a bit of honey. Finally, let the mixture cool and then pour it into the spray bottle.
Now you’re ready to get rid of your problematic ants. Just spray the infected areas and wait. The sugar and honey will attract the ants and the borax will kill them.
