In this day and age it’s truly baffling to me to think that homophobia and racial discrimination are alive and well.
Sadly, of course, they are. Two U.S. soldiers were reportedly brutally attacked at a nightclub at the weekend, for nothing more than dancing with each other.
Sources state that Ny’Zavian Dozier, 24, and Keith D. Rowe, 25, both of whom are black and gay, were assaulted at the club in Zadar, Croatia, at around 3:00 a.m.
Rowe spoke on the matter in an Instagram video following the attack. Sporting a black eye, he said: “Me and Dozier got jumped by 10 Croatian men and basically we were fighting for our lives. There was one point when I believe there was a guy that had me in a headlock.”
Fortunately, a girl the pair had met at the club that night came to their aid and assisted them after the attack.
A spokesperson confirmed a police investigation has been launched, stating: “On the night of Saturday, Sunday, after three o’clock, police received reports that several people had taken part in a fight, and upon entering the field, it was determined that the men, American citizens ‘danced a little more vigorously’ and that annoyed these men who attacked them.
“We are still determining whether this is a hate attack. We are looking for the perpetrators, and we cannot confirm at this time that they are US soldiers.”
No arrests have currently been made, though a formal investigation is underway.
An official statement from the American Embassy in Zagreb read: “The US Embassy in Zagreb condemns the recent violent attacks on two US tourists in Zadar. The well-being and security of US citizens abroad is one of the State Department’s top priorities. The Embassy is ready to provide appropriate assistance to American citizens in need and their families. Due to privacy issues, we are unable to comment further on this case.”
To think such discrimination still exists in the word is sickening to me! The fact they’re soldiers actively trying to serve their country makes it even worse.
