Superman star Margot Kidder passes away aged 69

Superman fans may remember Margot Kidder, the actress who starred opposite Christopher Reeve in the 1978 version of the film.

Sadly, TMZ are now reporting that the 69-year-old passed away on May 13, 2018 at her Montana home. The cause of death has not yet been announced.

Magaret Ruth “Margot” Kidder was born October 17, 1948 in Canada. She got her big break when she portrayed Lois Lane in the Superman films that also starred the legendary Christopher Reeve.

After the success she had playing Lane, Margot went on to star in several other big movie roles. She featured in such classics as Sisters, Black Christmas and The Amityville Horror, before her career slowed in the 90s.

As Margot contended with mental issues and a busy lifestyle, she stepped away from the limelight of the big screen. However, she returned to Hollywood in the 2000s and appeared in guest roles on television shows such as Smallville and The L World. As recently as 2015, she won an Emmy Award for her performance in R.L Stine’s The Haunting Hour.

Margot had one child, a daughter she gave birth to in 1976. Throughout her life she kept close contact with Christopher Reeve, up until his death in 2004.

In addition to a long career in film and TV, Margot was also an enthusiastic political activist. She was known for standing up for what she believed in and was an active supporter of liberal and democratic causes.

Fans around the world have taken to social media to mourn Margot’s passing.
