Have you ever considered the prospect of moving into the woods and living out your days in complete peace and serenity, far away from any big city? I know I certainly have.
Of course, it’s easy to dream about such things. Turning them into a reality, however, is another matter entirely. I’m not sure what it is for me personally. Perhaps I’m just afraid to take the plunge.
What I can say is that I’m feeling a strengthened resolve after seeing this incredible place …
Amongst the lush green surroundings of the beautiful Malvern Hills in Great Britain, lies an enchanting cottage.
From the outside it looks as though it could have been abandoned 500 years ago; like time has stood still and the building hasn’t changed.
That goes out the window, though, when you have a peep inside the house known as Wishbone Cottage …
Nestled between an old fruit farm and a fish pond, Wishbone was originally built as a barn sometime in the 1400s.
From the outside it seems to be a forgotten relic; an impressive building claimed by nature, completely overgrown with ivy and tree leaves.
An old wooden door offers no hint to the fact there’s actually hidden treasures inside.
But one look inside this place reveals that isn’t the case …
Wishbone is a tall cottage built with sturdy wood, stone walls and sloping ceilings.
The white walls give the living room a spacious feel. The open plan build connects it with an impressive kitchen.
Beautiful, right?
The kitchen might not be the biggest space in the house, but it has all the amenities you need. There’s a modern fireplace, fridge, small freezer space, dishwasher and microwave. There’s also a small washing machine just outside the dining room.
An original stone floor walkway takes you past the dining table and to a cozy bedroom – one that has its own bathroom.
The bedroom is located behind a thick curtain and boasts a king-size bed with modern bedding and a simple colour scheme. There’s a small heater next to the bed, so guests staying there don’t have to be concerned with the cold.
The home is over 500 years old, but has everything you need … just check out the bathroom below!
The cottage blends rustic aesthetics with new vibrance. If you stay there, you get a complementing blend of both the past and present.
The upper floor has been transformed into a beautiful, fully-furnished loft. Once upon a time, this was where hay was kept.
The perfect place for a nap in the afternoon, I’d say. You can fall asleep to the sounds of birds singing and the leaves blowing in the wind …
But the best part of Wishbone has to be the patio, located just outside the living room.
Light blue doors open onto an incredible cobblestone patio with dining tables, lanterns and terracotta pots filled with fresh plants and herbs.
Enjoy breakfast or lunch outdoors overlooking rolling hills. Or perhaps you’d prefer a glass of wine by the fireplace?
This cottage is actually routinely rented out, with guests who have been there describing it as charming, sweet and the finest cottage in which they’ve stayed.
The surroundings aren’t half bad, either …
There are several scenic hiking trails winding their way through untouched countryside. Or you can take a canoe trip downstream using the Wye River.
What an incredible place. I’d sure like to stay here for a few weeks.
If you, too, fell in love with this rural paradise, you can book the cottage at Unique Home Stays.
If, like me, you’re one of those people who says they’re going to do things but never actually does them, then you can just enjoy the pictures and dream about being there. In any case, I felt I had to share the place with you as it blew my mind.
I hope you liked it as much as I did – please share with your friends and family on Facebook if you’d like to go here too!
