Mom Denise Robinson says she’s suing after her daughter’s long hair was shaved off completely by staff at a group home.
“I am very upset. And I’m not going to stop being upset because I feel like my child was assaulted and violated,” Denise Robinson said, according to NECN.
Denise said she dropped her 7-year-old daughter Tru off at Little Heroes Group Home, in Dracut, Massachusetts, with a full head of hair “down her back.” But when Denise went to pick her daughter up, the little girl’s hair was completely shaven off. Unbelievable!
No phone call, no permission
“I was told a clinician gave permission to have this haircut done,” Denise said, adding that nobody from the group home called to ask her permission.
The staff cited cleanliness for taking such an extreme measure. But what they told the little girl before they cut off her hair is outrageous.
Denise’s attorney, Richard Kendell explained to CBS Boston, “The volunteer informed this seven-year-old biracial child that by shaving her head, her hair would grow back straight. I find that appalling.”
The Little Heroes Group Home told Buzzfeed of the circumstances was underway to “determine what occurred and, if necessary, appropriate action will be taken,” adding, “The program employs a diverse staff that is attentive to the needs of all children. Decisions regarding grooming are based on a variety of factors, including hygiene.”
Denise disputed the school’s statement. She told NECN, “There was no hygienic reason to shave my child’s head. There was no head lice. There was no bed bugs. Her hair was in two pony tails on the side on Saturday and it was braided in the pony tails and there was nothing wrong.”
We hope that there are repercussions so that no other child has to go through something like this again. What do you think? How would you feel if your child’s school shaved off all of their hair?
