Pregnant woman struck and killed by veteran officer on his way to work

A pregnant woman was struck and killed by an Indianapolis police officer Wednesday night. According to a release from the Indianapolis Police Department, the 22-year veteran police officer was reporting to work when he struck the victim.

The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. when Officer Jonathon Henderson was traveling was on S. Harding Street and proceeding to turn onto the entrance ramp to I-465.

The victim was struck as Henderson began to turn towards the entrance ramp.

Henderson called for back and administered first aid. The victim was taken to a local hospital where she and her unborn child were both pronounced dead.

As part of protocol, Henderson cooperated with investigators and had his blood drawn. While an investigation has only begun, officials do not believe Henderson was impaired.
